Margaret Paul was elected Berwyn City Clerk in 2017.   She also serves as the Berwyn Township Clerk and sits as Secretary on the Berwyn Township Health District. She served the City of Berwyn as Third Ward Alderman for two terms from 2009 until her recent election. As an Alderman, Margaret was known as an independent voice on City Council and as an advocate for the citizens of Berwyn on everything from responsible business development to flood prevention.

Margaret is a licensed attorney admitted to the bar in Illinois and the U.S. District Court, 7th Circuit. She is a graduate of Wayne State University (Detroit) and The John Marshall Law School (Chicago).

Born in Detroit, Margaret has called Berwyn home since 1980. She was among the first members of the Berwyn United Neighborhood Lesbian and Gay Organization (BUNGALO) and successfully worked to have LGBTQ protections included in Berwyn’s Community Relations Ordinance. She recently worked to add protections for undocumented residents. She is proud that Berwyn is a Welcoming City. 

Margaret is a member of the Municipal Clerks of Illinois and Township Officials of Illinois organizations. Locally, she is a member BUNGALO, The Berwyn Women’s Club, The Berwyn Historical Society, the All Berwyn Committee, and St. Leonard Parish.
